Syllabus
  • The aim of this course is to acquire a basic idea of what has been going on in British literature in the postwar period. The non-compulsory lecture should help you to find your way in the information available or to give guidance where the information is limited, pointing to developments, streams, personalities and works. In the seminar we will look at a concrete work (or works) connected with the period dealt with in the lecture. After you have read it at home, we will talk about its different aspects, both thematic and formal. We will also see how the work can be related to our human experience, how it enriches us as human beings. Besides the seminar reading (contained mostly in The Norton Anthology of English Literature, vol. II) you will be asked to read at least five works of your own choice from the period.
