- Course objectives
- The course covers three areas in which psychology informs us about criminal behavior and the legal system. The first concerns a discussion of criminal behavior: principal theories, causes, treatment, prevention, and how some theories of human nature address the problem of criminal behavior. The second area examines the interface between the legal system and psychology: the role of the courts, eyewitness testimony, expert witnesses, jury composition, and the role that psychological factors play in the presentation of a case. The third area is concerned with what happens after the verdict is rendered: the role of punishment and a discussion of the death penalty.
