The course is offered to students of any study field.
Syllabus
  • The course is aimed at providing students of Librarianship with knowledge of current state and trends in theory and practice of Digital Libraries (DL), as well as basic notions and concepts from this field. The following main topics are to be studied:
  • Notion of DL - definitions, DL evolution, relation between libraries and DLs.
  • (Inter)national DL programmes and activities.
  • Some selected projects both from research/development and practice.
  • Discussion of basic areas within the field of DL:
  • -- general framework and architecture of DL
  • -- metadata
  • -- interoperability
  • -- global resource discovery
  • -- IPR management and economics
  • -- multilingual access
  • -- long-term preserving of electronic documents.
  • Key approaches from the areas will be demonstrated on selected DL-projects.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Závěrečné hodnocení bude založeno na vypracování 5-6 stránkové eseje podrobně popisující dle zadané osnovy vybraný projekt či program DL a vyplnění záverečného testu.
