Course objectives
The course will phocus signiphicant personalities, phenomenas, schools and movements involved to the humour typical (also non - typical) for the czech culture of the 20.th century.
Syllabus
  • 1. Terminology, interpretation apparatus 2. Hašek; mystification (The Party of the Slow Progress in the Bounds of the Law) 3. Horror and grotesque (Klíma, Váchal) 4. Osvobozené divadlo (Liberated Theater); ludisms (relationship of humour and playing games) 5. The Cabarets (The Red Seven) 6. Čapeks and Poláčeks critics of the words and phrases; The Recesse (the 1930s. - the 1940s) 7. Humour in the works of F. Němec and V. Lacina; explosionalism (the 1950s, artist a graphic artist Vladimír Boudník) 8. T. R. Field; excrementism (the parody of marxism-leninism) 9. The Theaters of the Small Forms 10. The lyrics and the grotesque (Macourek, Žáček); the Movement of the Šmidrs (the 50s - the 60s, research of weirdness) 11. The absurd drama; The authentic humour of the underground (Bondy, Jirous, Pánek) 12. The Prague irony; Praga Magica 13. J. Škvorecký; Křižovnická school (depointized humour) 14. M.
