- Course objectives
- The course deals with the relationships between literary and film works. Thorough interpretation of a literary work and its film version will constitute the essential part of the seminar. The participants will trace the film adaptative methods, shifts of both meaning and style, differences in narrative techniques and treatment of time, aesthetical structures of the literary text and film, social function of the work etc. Six film-projections will be part of the seminar.

- Seminars will focus on these literary and film works: Francouzova Milenka / The French Lieutenant's Woman (John Fowles, Karel Reisz), Deník venkovského faráře / Journal d'un curé de campagne (Georges Bernanos, Robert Bresson), Démanty noci (Arnošt Lustig, Jan Němec), Spalovač mrtvol (Ladislav Fuks, Juraj Herz), Obchod na korze (Jan Grossman, Elmar Klos, Ján Kadár), Adelheid (Vladimír Körner, František Vláčil).
