Course objectives
Course description: Practice with the operating system Windows and with the word processing programme Word. Introduction to working with archaeological databases (the programmes Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel).
Syllabus
  • 1. Summation of the issues studied in Computer Technology I. 2. Relation data model. Relation table and its entering. Interactivity. Filtering of records in the relation database. 3. Inquiries. Reasons for the use of inquiries. Creation of an inquiry. Selection of fields. Selective inquiries. Use of wildcard characters. Use of criteria in inquiries. Creation of cross inquiries. 4. Fundamentals of work with reports. Reasons for the use of reports and their functions. Creation of reports. 5. Import, export and attachment of tables. Import of tables from table calculators and text files. 6. Introduction to the work with table programmes. Definition of table programmes. Table programmes and archaeology. Information on main table programmes. 7. Designation of cells and entering of commands. Ways of data entering. Moving within a sheet. 8. Analysis of data by means of formulas, their transfers and copying. Graphs. Types of graphs. Formatting of graph elements. 9. Use of graphs for analysis of data. Completing of data series by a trend curve. 10. Statistical analysis of data by means of Microsoft Excel. Bar chart. 11. Preparation for the creation of an individual archaeological database. 12. Individual work with databases. Analysis of source materials and a proposal of database structure. 13. Individual work with databases. Creation of a database with forms. Description. 14. Individual work with databases. Questions. Evaluation of data in a table programme. 15. Summation and test.
