Course objectives
The course offers an overview of some important European schools of literary theoretical thinking. Among the core topics is the function of literature, reception of literature and the literature canon. The second part of the course is devoted to practicing literary analysis of both poetry and prose. At the end of the course students will be able to use the Dutch literature terminology and to analyse specific literary theoretical issues in their historical contexts.
