Course objectives
This course follows the topics dealt with in CJA003, the main focus being on the morphological structure of Old Church Slavonic, based on analysis of relevant material. At the end of the course students should be able to read, explain, transcribe and transliterate texts written in Old Church Slavonic. Other relevant points will be the morphological structure of Old Church Slavonic and details relating to origin and spreading of this first standard Slavonic language. At the end of the course students should be able to use the acquired knowledge to explain basic differences among the individual Slavonic languages.
Syllabus
  • 1. System of the Slavonic declension, noun stems. 2. Declension of adjectives (nominal declension X compound declension). 3. Comparative (derivation and declension). 4. Declension of pronouns. 5. Declension of numerals. 6. Conjugation – thematic/ athematic verbs. 7. Present tense. 8. Imperative mood. 9. Aorist tense. 10. Imperfect tense. 11. Infinitive and supine. 12. Participle. 13. Periphrastic verbal forms.
