- Course objectives
- The seminars are focused on linguistic and stylistic analysis of Czech literary texts from the very beginnings to the early Revival period. The students’ presentation is either focused on the development of the Czech society or on analysis of all language aspects of the selected text, resulting in a conclusion as to how might have the text influenced the addressee in the particular period, i.e. to deal with its stylistic intention and the result. In the case of anonymous texts such analysis can moreover help to place the text to a certain period. Aims of the course: by contrasting partial information about phonological, morphological, syntactic and naming levels it is possible to arrive at a complex view of the linguistic and stylistic form and its evaluation.
- Syllabus
- The seminar deals with selected topics relating to the development of Standard Czech.
- The tutor’s explanations will be focused on the Czech language during the particular periods.
- Students’ presentations will focus on the relations of language and society during the individual periods (14th century, the Hussite period, the Humanistic period, the Baroque period, Revival period, 19th-20th centuries).
