- Indroduction to the early modern and contemporary urban design.
- Syllabus
- 1. Enigma loci vs. Genius loci (the urban design and urban planning between architecture, history of art and sociology - the concept of the "sociology of seeing"). & 2. Architecture, utopia and the feast (the antropomorphism in the architecture , the Vitruvian figure - "aspetto" versus "prospetto"). & 3. The sensualisation of the place (palazzo and villa - their scenic integration in Toscana). & 4. The rationalisation of the nature in the town (Villa in Rome). & 5. The economic villa and enigma loci (Veneto, Venice and Palladio). & 6. The skiagraphy and the architecture as a place of wonders (Vinzenzo Scamozzi). & 7. The Sacro bosco in Bomarzo (mannerism, the "secret" garden and studiollo). & 8. The concept of the urban design in the baroque: the way, direction and the center (Rome, Paris). & 9. In the castle and around the castle "V zámku a podzámčí" ("spirit of systems" in the baroque). & 10. The sentimental journey across the garden (age of the enlightenment). & 11. "Ringstrasse" and "boulevard" (the urban design of Vienna, Paris and Chicago in the 2nd Half of the 19th century. & 12. The european town in the 19th century. & 13. The utopia and reality of the functionalism. & 14. The circles of Otterloo (Aldo van Eyck: "space and time versus place and a moment of form"). & 15. The Learning from Las Vegas and "Delirious New York" (Robert Venturi and Rem Koohlhas). & 16. Unrealised urban design of Brno (from beginn of the 19th century, through the organic design of Královo Pole to Jindřich Kumpošt). &
