- Course objectives
- By 1900, Berlin, Munich, and Wien had become important cultural centers. Their rich literary lives sharply contrasted with the previously popular small-town Realism. Since, the cult status of the fin de siècle arts have been established, not least due to the loss of continuity through the ensuing disasters of the 20th century.
The introductory lecture will be followed by seminars, focused on one author and text each. The authors covered are: Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Hermann Conradi, Arno Holz, Oskar Panizza, Stanislaw Pryzbzsyewski, Eduard von Keyserling, Richard Beer-Hofmann, Frank Wedekind, Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Lous Andreas-Salomé, Max Dauthendey, Robert Walser, and Hermann Broch. - Syllabus
