Course objectives
Knowledge of basic educational psychology concepts is an integral part of expertise in education. Possibilities of application of basic theoretical concepts in a daily process of individual teaching and learning, education and self-education will be explored.
Syllabus
  • 1. Educational psychology. Definition and subject of educational psychology. Educational psychology and related disciplines: general psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, school psychology and education. Educational psychology as a part of psychological studies. Effectiveness of educational interventions, the psychology of teaching, and the social psychology of schools as organizations.
  • 2. Methods in educational psychology. Methods for collecting data: experiment, observation, survey, interview, anamnesis. Methods for exploring data: qualitative and quantitative approaches, self-exploration.
  • 3. Learning. Terminology, definition. Psychology of learning. Associative learning, observational learning, verbal learning etc.
  • 4. Laws of learning. Laws of learning. Motivation. Interference and transfer of human learning. Exercise and effectiveness.
  • 5. Aspects of learning process and performance. Learning environment, resources and personality of teacher.
  • 6. Learning methods and strategies. Knowledge, skills and habits acquisition. Visual perception, abstract thinking and practice. Superlearning, problem-based learning, collaborative learning, overlearning etc.
  • 7. Learning styles. Definition, classification and diagnosis of learning styles. Learning strategies and approaches of successful and unsuccessful students.
  • 8. Creativity. Definition. Development of creativity. The creative process and its components. Creative process in school.
  • 9. Unsuccessful students. Causes of school failure. Psychological aspects and intervention.
  • 10. Psychological aspects of school examination. Exams, evaluation and school classification accuracy. Exam fever.
  • 11. Personality of teacher. Typology. Personality development, self-reflection and continuous process of self-improving.
  • 12. The educational, behavioral, and psychological characteristics of a student.
  • 13. Teacher - student relationship. Attitudes and commitments.
  • 14. Psychological aspects of didactic principles.
  • 15. Communication in education.
  • 16. Psychology of education and self-education. Requirements, punishment and rewards in education. Role playing as a model of teaching. Verbal, non-verbal, direct and indirect education. Personality and self-education.
  • 17. School behavioral problems and social pathological phenomenons. Lying, cheating, stealing, indiscipline, truancy and risk-taking behavior.
  • 18. Re-education. Personality change. Bad habits.
