- Course objectives
- The course will deal with some personalities in the history of philosophy and theatre, which somehow connect these two areas of culture, e.g.:
philosophical analysis or critique of theatre,
dramatical production of philosophers,
interpretation of philosophical problems in dramatic performance.
After the completion of the course, students will be aware of various types of connection between philosophy and theatre. - Syllabus
- 1. Drama from the viewpoint of philosophy.
- 2. Nietzsche on ancient drama and philosophy.
- 3. Philosophy and Socrates in Aristophanes' plays.
- 4. Philosophy in ancient tragedy.
- 5. Plato on drama and art.
- 6. Aristotle and drama.
- 7. Seneca - philosopher and playwriter.

- The form of the course is lecture. Therefore, the participation on lectures is not obligatory. The colloquium can be gained for the final paper which demonstrates connection between philosophy and theatre. The extent of the paper should be between 9000 - 18000 symbols.
