Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows:
- The first aim of this course concerns an analysis of the three novels on the sylabus (to read quickly). With Tigre en papier, Olivier Rolin returns to the political engagement in the 1970's. With La Hache et le violon, Alain Fleischer proposes a philosophical novel which tackles the History of the last century, the Holocaust and the Zionist movement in particular.
- On the level of theory, we will return to certain categories of the analysis of the novel or to certain literary genres (the anti-utopia for example) through the works concerned.
- Finally, this course will allow to mention (quickly) the contemporary French literature. We will try to understand what the literature says, what does it teach about the world, about History and the desires that go across.

  • Course No 3 (5 March) : The representation of the political engagement in the 70's. (exposé)
  • Course No 4 (12 March) : Writing, totality and post-modernity. (exposé)
  • Course No 5 (19 March) : La Hache et le violon, a philosophical novel (introduction + exposé)
  • Course No 6 (26 March) : L’Europe centrale by Alain Fleischer (exposé)
  • Course No 7 (2 April) : Echos of l’Histoire in Alain Fleischer (exposé)
  • Course No 8 (9 April) : The structure of Globalia (introduction + exposé)
  • Course No 9 (16 April) : Il y aura une fois : the anti-utopia genre (exposé)
  • Course No 10 (23 April) : Echos of the future : a « Globalitaire » univers (exposé)
  • Course No 11 (30 April) : Particularities of the contemporary French novel (exposé by an author)
  • Course No 12 (7 May) : History and fiction (exposé + summary of the course)
  • Course No 13 (14 May) : Feedback on the papers from the lecture and a conclusion
