Course objectives
The course deals with the relationships between literary and film works. Thorough interpretation of a literary work and its film version will constitute the essential part of the seminar. The participants will trace the film adaptative methods, shifts of both meaning and style, differences in narrative techniques and treatment of time, aesthetical structures of the literary text and film, social function of the work etc. Six film-projections will be part of the seminar.
After finishing the course students:
understand the specifics of film-literature relations;
are familiar with main theoretical approaches,
are provided with terms from the field of the theory of adaptation,
deepen their strategies useful for interpreting selected film adaptations of novels.

Teaching methods
The seminar is based on methods of presentation, analysis and synthesis of knowledge. It also uses collective work, in-class discussions and individual work of students.
Assessment methods
The seminar is concluded by a credit. For obtaining the credit students have to give a presentation, hand in theses of the presentation with the list of literature and actively participate in lessons.
