Course objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the problems of theatre management. Part of the course consists in an active participation in a student production at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts.
Syllabus
  • * theoretical introduction to the problems (organization, management, copyright law, dramaturgy...) * inspection of productions * active participation in production organization * written reflection on production organization (with a possible interconnection with theatre production review)
Literature
  • Jan Dvořák, Kreativní management pro divadlo. Aneb o divadle jinak. Praha: Pražská scéna, 2004.
Teaching methods
The course consists of seminars and of practical work. In the seminars students learn of the practice of theatre management and production work. In the practical part, the student team cooperate with the production side of a theatre production. In this course students make use competence and experience acquired in previous compulsory courses (Theatre Review and Criticism) and, in an independent and self-managed editorial activity create a document (journal) accompanying the theatre production. In it, the students reflect both the artistic side and the production side of the theatre performance. This independent editorial work is supervised by the teacher, but the realization (and management) of the publication is fully in the hands of the students.
Assessment methods
The course consists of compressed workshops and work at the rehearsals of a student production. Assessment is based on active participation and the written assignment. This course is the second part of a two-part cycle.
