- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The course deals with selected syntactic problems related to analysis of independent clauses in Italian and French in confrontation with Czech. The central theme is predication, realized not only through a verb, but especially through an event noun combined with a copula or light verb. Students will be introduced with principles of syntactic Lexicon-grammar analysis.
- Syllabus
- 1. Sentence, proposition, text, context. Syntactic and informational structure of a sentence. 2. Predication as a syntactic and semantic phenomenon. Argument structure of predicate. Verbal predication. 3. Nominal predication with copula verb, nominal predication with light verb. Transformational tests: Reduction of light verb, inalienability of the subject. 4. Event nouns, result nouns. Concrete nouns in light verb constructions. 5. Light verb and its typology. 6. Aspect and aktionsart in light verb constructions. 7. Attribute, epithet.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific text. Seminar: application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. During their presentations students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of a specific text.
