Course objectives
At the end of this course student should be abble to: interpret medieval texts connected with relationships between Christians and Muslims; understand religious, cultural, political and military dimensions of these relationships; explain the place of Islam in the history of Medieval Europe and its influence on the formation of Western culture; use acquired knowledge for better understanding of relationships between "Christian" and "Islamic" world in general.

  • How Muslim scholarship and knowledge found their ways to the West.
  • Attitudes of Western medieval Christians to Islam.
  • The Crusades.
  • The Reconquiste.
  • Ottoman raids and the end of Byzantium.
