Course objectives
The course is designed to teach students about the shaping of the Byzantine-Slavonic and Church-Slavonic cultural and literary traditions in Slovakia and in the East-Carpathian region. The lectures are dedicated to some of the most recent problems of linguistic, literary, cultural and historical development of the Cyrillic creation in the milieu of the Byzantine-Slavonic rite. Questions of Cyrillic legacy in other religious and folk literary genres in Slovakia and in the East-Carpathian region are also included.
Syllabus
  • a) A survey of the history of the Mukachevo eparchy; b) theological, catechetic and paraliturgical literature in the Chruch Slavonic language; c) national enlightment and relating activities in the Greek-Catholic Church in estern Slovakia.

During the course, students must write an essay on a previously selected topic. Final Project.
