Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with basic information about interdisciplinary slavistic research on the Church Slavonic language and its usage in diverse fields of oral and written culture with special regard to the monuments of the Byzantine-Slavonic tradition and their function in the context of the earlier literary culture of the interconfessional and multi-ethnic Carpathian region. Frequent references to the results of source investigation concerning linguistic, ethnic, confessional, social and religious processes in the Carpathian region will point out the need of comprehensive interdisciplinary research in this field of Slavonic studies. Relations between the Latin and the Byzantine-Slavonic cultural and religious traditions will be also discussed in the course.
