Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to analyse Slovak folk culture, compare Slovak folk culture with Czech folk culture.
Syllabus
  • Genesis and development of traditional culture of the Slovak ethnic group (Slavic roots, medieval colonization).
  • Relationships with the culture of the Hungarians and of neighbouring ethnic groups.
  • Cultural development from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
  • Lowland and highland types of culture.
  • Ethnographic regionalization and differentiation.
  • Characteristic features of material, social and spiritual culture of the Slovak people.
