Course objectives
Students should recognize various design styles, differences between the italian and Norse design; they should know the production of the most remarkable creators (as married couple Eames, Verner Panton, Joe Colombo, Arne Jacobsen), czech design leading-edge (Bořek Šípek, Jiří Pelcl, Atika, Maxim Velčovský) and firms (TON, Moser, Sklárny Květná); they should be able to define the postmodernism and to explain a connection between development of the accidence and development of the materials (plastic materials, corian) and new technologies (laser).
Syllabus
  • Subject is intended as a presentation of the 20th century´s design (developement since 1945 to present). Main intention is to familiarize the students with the metamorphoses of the shapes and materials and with technological progression especially in the sphere of the housing culture, furnishings and consumer objects. Subject aimed also to present the notable personalities, designers and manufacturers (with the accent to czech creators) and characterize the evolution in different fields of the production.
