- At the end of the course students should be able to:
translate selected passages of Petronius' Satyricon;
comment on these passages both linguistically and stylistically;
find and explain Vulgar Latin phenomena used in the text;
discuss historical and literary context of Petronius' works;
describe literary devices used in the work. - Syllabus
- Introduction - Satyricon in literary and historical context.
- Personality of the author.
- Reading and translation of selected passages of Petronius' work. Cena Trimalchionis.
- Analysis of language.
- Grecisms.
- Vulgar Latin elements in Petronius' work. Vulgar Latin as a means to characterize protagonists.
- Ways to express irony in Satyricon.
- Metrical analysis.

Credit evaluation note: Pro studenty doktorského studia (latinská medievistika) platí počet kreditů 10.
Information on course enrolment limitations: Předmět je určen studentům magisterského cyklu, ve výjimečných případadech jej lze po dohodě s vyučujícím zapsat semestr před složením státní bakalářské zkoušky.
