Course objectives
This course of Polish for advanced encompasses 2 semesters (1st and 2nd). Its main goal is developing students’ all-round communicative skills. The basis part of the course is conversation on up-to-date topics regarding situation in today Poland. There are also included lexis and grammatical exercises, conversations, texts analyses and translation. The teacher uses original, not-tuned texts from Polish press and audio materials. The level of Polish knowledge after this course is C1 ‘upper-intermediate level’.
After completing the course students will be able to:
- understand and explain grammatical structures adequate to the course level
- use information and lexis in communication with native speakers
- build correct grammatical structures
- interprete Polish texts
- read, write and speak in proper Polish
- know Polish orthography rules

  • 3. Politics in Poland. Political parties. Grammar exercises.
  • 4. Composition and syntax?. Exercises.
  • 5. Preparation for the certification tests. Exercises.
  • 6. Custom in our country. May holidays in Poland. Grammar exercises.
  • 7. Polish fairy tales and stories – translation exercises.
  • 8. Translation of Polish and Czech legends.
  • 9. Moral and immoral behavior. What should people be punished for? Grammar exercises.
  • 10. Ecology. Grammar exercises.
  • 11. What our future is going to be like? Futuristic visions – will they become reality? Technology and medical science advancements. Grammar exercises.
  • 12. In a tour guide role: what and how to tell our foreign visitors? A tour.

Teaching methods
Theoretical preparing, oral and writing exercises, group projects, presentations, homeworks, reading, conversations.
Assessment methods
written test and oral exam
The condition to pass this subject is to prepare 15 minutes presentation on chosen topic, reading of 1 book in Polish and passing the test. The later is conducted in the term agreed with the lecturer and students. Additionally students have to prepare all written works assigned by the teacher. There are possible two absences in each semester.
