- Course objectives
- Continuation of the normative grammar of the Attic dialect of Ancient Greek. The main aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of Ancient Greek grammar.
At the end of the course students should be able to: reproduce by heart nominal and verbal paradigms studied in the course (see syllabus of the course); explain grammatical rules studied in the course; translate simple Greek texts using a dictionary; explain the functions of selected syntactic structures. - Syllabus
- 1. Revision of present tense and imperfect tense 2. Asigmatic aorist active and middle voice 3. The role of aorist, perfective condition. 4. Sigmatic aorist active and middle voice 5. Future tense active and mediopassive 6. Personal, relative, demonstrative pronouns. 7. Comparison of adjectives. 8. Consonant stems – explosive sounds. 9. Consonant stems – liquid sounds. 10. Irregular comparison of adjectives and adverbs. 11. Sigmatic aorist passive. 12. Sigmatic future tense passive. 13. Summary and revision.

- Lectures, practice (grammatical exercises), reading of simple Greek texts, drill.
- Assessment methods
- Students’ active attendance is necessary. Credits are obtained by passing of the written test (12 lessons of the textbook Lexis). The test consists of a short coherent Greek text translation, a translation of sentences from Greek into Czech, identifying verb forms exercise and a translation of verb forms (from and into Czech), declension of nouns and adjectives. The course ends with a written exam which consist of translation of an authentic Greek text with the use of a dictionary and the grammatical test.
