Course objectives
The course deals with selected issues of history, culture and today of the historical territory of Macedonia and the modern Macedonian statehood. The emphasis is put on rendering historical and cultural specifics of the development of Macedonia, the formation of modern national identity in this part of Southeast Europe and the deconstruction of ideologized interpretations of the Macedonian history. The course also presents a basic geographic, political, social and economic characteristics of the Republic of Macedonia (RM). On successful completion of the course student will acquire necessary knowledge and arguing skill on the Macedonian life and institutions as well as to the political development and cultural specifics of this country.

Lectures, home reading, class discussion.
Assessment methods
Prerequisites for granting the credit: regular attendance and thorough home preparation on weekly basis, participation in class discussion. Oral exam concentrates on the student’s knowledge of the subject matter and the relevant literature.
