Prerequisites (in Czech)
( PH1104 Antiquity - I || PHK1104 Antiquity - I ) && SOUHLAS
1. Kurz předpokládá účastníky, kteří budou ochotni studovat zadané pramenné texty, a pak o nich diskutovat na hodině. Počátek diskuse přitom musí vycházet od studentů.

2. Kurz se bude konat pouze za podmínky, že se do něj přihlásí:
a) Alespoň 8 studentů I. ročníku, kteří navíc budou ochotni referovat o seminárních diskusích svým spolužákům.
b) Alespoň 4 studenti II. ročníku, kteří už úspěšně zvládli Postupovou zkoušku a kteří budou ochotni svým následovníkům předat své zkušenosti, a tím jim pomoci ve zvládání povinností.

3. Vítáni jsou však i studenti, kteří se připravují na bakalářskou státní zkoušku a chtějí si osvěžit znalosti pozdní antické a středověké filosofie.

4. A konečně je kurz otevřen i pro zájemce o anticku filosofii z řad magisterských studentů. U nich se však předpokládá už hlubší (badatelský) zájem o téma a případná výpomoc s úpravou a doplněním stávajících výukových materiálů.

Course objectives
After the completion of the course, interpret ancient and mediaval philosophical sources and to understand and explain main problems from the philosophy of these periods.
Syllabus
  • Discussions on following topics according to progress of lectures in the course History of Philosophy II:
  • 1. Hellenistic philosophical schools.
  • 2. The Neo-Platonism.
  • 3. The Christian philosophy in antiquity.
  • 4. Between ancient and mediaval philosophy.
  • 5. An introduction to mediaval philosophy.
  • 6. Proofs of the existence of God.
  • 7. Peter Abaelard.
  • 8. The problem of universals.
  • 9. Thomas Aquinas.
  • The main attention should be paid to the obligatory sources for subjects of the course, as introduced here: http://www.phil.muni.cz/fil/antika/prameny_a_literatura.htm (from the thema 9).

Reading of required texts and discussions about the studied texts in classes.
Assessment methods
Active participation in seminars.

In the case of only passive participation on a lesson you will obtain 1 point, when you will join to the discussion on the ground of your reading of the obligatory source you will obtain 2 points. You should collect at least 75% of possible points in order to gain credits.
