Course objectives
The seminar is proposed for students, who want to acquire better knowledge of possibilities of using corpuses in a linguistic research focused on adjectives. At the end of the course students widen their knowledge of adjectives and the difficulties of research in the corpus. Students should be able to exploit the corpus and its tools fully and also analyze various linguistic problems with respect to using corpus.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the theme, CNC, available corpuses and tools, corpus manager Bonito. 2. Adjectives, revision and intensifying of knowledge. 3. Searching by optional attributes, morphological tagging and lemmatization, using of classification and statistics. 4. Morphology of adjectives (nominal forms, comparison), morphosyntactic and syntactic characteristic of adjectives (agreement in the nominal group, valency of adjectives). 5. Comparison between corpus data and traditional grammars. 6. Individual work and unsupported solving of problems.
