- Course objectives
- Course focuses on the development of German national identity in Czech Lands during 19th and 20th century on the background of political history.
Students will be presented not only facts about German society in the Habsburg monarchy and Czechoslovakia, but should also develop ability to apply different historical methods on the presented topics and to improve their critical skills. - Syllabus

- Political development of Austrian Germans, 1848-1914; the Empire – nation-state dichotomy
- The Great War and the emergence of nation-states in Central Europe Germans in Czechoslovakia, 1918-1938; forming of the Sudeten-German identity
- Germans in Czech Lands, 1938-1945; nation-state and totalitarism Destruction of Sudeten German society, 1945-1949; Germans as involuntary émigrés and a minority in Czechoslovakia National myths of Sudeten Germans
