- Course objectives
- Continuation of Portuguese Literature I. The aim is to provide knowledge about the most important currents and tendencies in the Portuguese Literature from 1750 until 1915. In the seminars the students are supposed to analyse selected texts.It will be the students task to apply the beforehand defined terms during the analysis and imply their proper conclusions from observed

Romanticism (analysis: Almeida Garrett: Podloubí v Anenské ulici (romance), Mnich Luís de Sousa (play), Alexandre Herculano: Černý biskup a jiné příběhy (short stories), Camilo Castelo Branco: Zhoubná láska (romance) 3. Realism (analysis: Eca de Queirós: Bratranec Basílio (novel), Eca de Queirós: No Moinho (short story), Eca de Queirós: Maiové (novel), Eca de Queiros: Zločin pátera Amara (novel) 4. Fin-de-siecle (analysis: Pessanha, Nobre, Quental - poems, Cesário Verde: Pocit Portugalce (poem), R. - Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions Seminar: application of the theoretical knowledge on texts
- Assessment methods
- Credit: is obtained for active participation in the course, oral presentation, written essay, reading and after succesfully completing a final test where students prove their capacity to connect theoretical knowledge with the analysis and interpretation of literary texts.
