Course objectives
After completing the course the student acquires systematic overview of the theory, methodology and technology of knowledge organization and be able to effectively use, analyze, design and evaluate systems, processes, tools and resources used in   the field.
Syllabus
  • 1) Basic concepts, context, links. 2) Access to knowledge organization, domain analysis. 3) The concept, representation of concepts, relationships between concepts, intersections in linguistics, semiotics, (cognitive) psychology, mathematics and statistics. 4) Categorization, classification, facets. 5) Terminology, terminography, scientific classification, taxonomy. 6) Semantics and syntax notation system. 7) Formal structure of the document, document representation (metadata). 8) Processes of knowledge organization - content analysis, indexing, classification, automated procedures. 9) Ontology as a general type of knowledge organization. 10) Universal classification systems - UDC, DDC, Bliss, Ranganathan. 11) Systems of knowledge organisation based on natural language. 12) Representation of knowledge and visualization in knowledge organization systems.

Teaching methods
Lecture, guided discussions, student presentations, homework, gamification.
Assessment methods
The course is classified on the basis of: 1) knowledge test / 25 questions (min. 13 must be answered correctly), 2) final report on domain analysis, which the student prepares continuously throughout the semester according to the assignment of particular tasks, and 3) presentation of the sub-task student in the class; 4) activity in the class (optional).
