Základním předpokladem pro studium v kurzu je zájem o štípanou industrii evropského pravěku a snaha problematice porozumět. Štípaná industrie je specifická skupina hmotné kultury, jejíž analýza vyžaduje, aby si student osvojil nejen základní znalecké a typologické zkušenosti, ale chápal principy technik a metod její výroby a celou šíři jejího operačního řetězce.

Course objectives
Absolvent of this course will able to;
- analyze whatever collection of chipped stone industry regarding techniques and methods of production, morphotypology, and functional analysis;
- determine used raw material and chronological and cultural frame of central europian collections;
- document collection both in database and drawing;
- consider a choice the best methodological tools to explore archaeological data from whatever collection
Syllabus
  • introduction to chipped stone studies (principles, history of research, modern methodology);
  • chipped stone industry raw materials (introductions, classification, raw materials of central Europe, observed characters);
  • techniques and methods of chipped stones production;
  • basic description of debitage and cores;
  • dynamic analysis principles, classification by exploitation stage;
  • basic description of tools (observed characters);
  • morphotypological and functional classification of tools;
  • basic database description of collection and statistic analysis;
  • introduction to complex dynamic analysis and chaines opératoires;
  • introduction to intrasite, distribution or areal studies of chipped stones (analysis, models);
  • documentation drawing workshop I;
  • documentation drawing workshop II

Teaching methods
Course is leaded as full e-learning. Nevertheless, attention on two documentation drawing workshops is obligatory.;
Course disposes of three optional contact consultation blocks in lector´s office for direct demonstration of observed characters on material culture.
Assessment methods
Course contains 12 lessons. Every lesson contains texts, wide visual presentation, further reading, practice module and feedback test.;
Progress through the course is conditioned by successful realization of all modules. It is possible pass through rapidly than during contact education. Time plan is adjustable. Nevertheless all feedback tests are closed by deadline (one weekly).;
For practice modules is 50% at least required (unlimited number of trials). For feedback tests (5 questions for understanding assure)is 80% required. Mostly practical skills will be tested. Course is finalized by collective coloquium of connoisseur skills.
