Course objectives
Intoductory course to the Gothic language, concentrating on phonology and morphology. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to read and understand some less difficult texts.
Syllabus
  • As the study of Gothic language is usually undertaken by students of German, the course includes a short survey of historical phonology and morphology of Germanic languages with special regards to Old High German. The Gothic morphology (declension and conjugation) is dealt with on the text (Matth. V, 17 etc.).
