- Course objectives
- The course examines a number of various topics. Gradually, there will be discussed the possibilities of discovering and measuring interaction, attitudes, interpersonal and group relationships, knowledge, skills and the large context of education (together with understanding the sociological and demographic research). Particular attention will be paid to methods of questionnaires, long-term, action and qualitative research. At the end of the course students should be able to: explain strengths and weaknesses of methods and techniques of educational research; evaluate methodology of research; select and apply adequate method or technique of research.
- Syllabus
- Science and scientific research, process of empirical research: problem, theoretical background.
- Hypothesis (formulation, testing), verification and falsification, operationalization, measurement, validity, reliability, variables.
- Technical project, construction of sample, economic and personal limits of the research, criteria for choosing method and techniques.
- Experimental research in educational sciences.
- Methods and techniques of questioning (questionnaire, interview)
- Methods and techniques of research on attitudes (semantic differentiation, scales, Q-methodology, projective techniques.
- Methods and techniques of research on pedagogical and social interaction (observation, analysis of interaction)
- Methods and techniques of research on inter individual and group relations (group climate, school climate, sociometry, social cognitive mapping).
- Content analysis, analysis of documents, secondary analysis of data.
- Qualitative techniques, case studies.
- Longitudinal research, action research, comparative research.
