Course objectives
This course is a facultative sequel to the course VIKBA03 Sources of Information in Cultural Context. At the end of the course, students will be able to:
orientate themselves in academic literature concerning literary history and culture;
understand the principles of elaborating scientific texts;
critically evaluate both scientific literature and popular science literature;
apply acquired knowledge during the elaboration of their own works.
Syllabus
  • First of all, students will be familiarized with recommended literature and procedures for elaborating their presentations (two lessons). On the basis of an agreement with the teacher they will choose the topic of their papers, predominantly from the literary field (cultural or historical context). In the subsequent lessons they will give their presentations and discuss them together and with the teacher. The following aspects will be discussed: outcomes of presentations, procedures during their preparation, relevant primary and secondary literature, specificity of using classical and internet sources of information (including classical and electronic books).

Teaching methods
Seminar. Lecturing; elaboration of a seminar paper on a selected topic; presentation and discussion.
Assessment methods
Students obtain the credit for giving a presentation on a selected topic and for passing the colloqium.
