Course objectives
The course is focused on possibilities provided to linguists by specialized computer software, especially in the spheres of morphology and word-formation. Students work with software which has been created at Faculty of Informatics MU above all. Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to acquire the basic knowledges of NLP; to familiarize with linguistics software; to learn how to use and exploit the tools; to work with the select tools in course works.

  • 1. Introduction, what is computer linguistics, NLP laboratories in CR.
  • 2. Computer lexicography, web interfaces, Dictionary Editor and Browser DEBDict.
  • 3. Speech recognition and speech synthesis.
  • 4. Corpus linguistics, corpora, Sketche Engine.
  • 5. Corpus linguistics applications, WSE, Corpus Architect etc.
  • 6. Morphological analysis, morphological analyzers, tagging.
  • 7. Syntactic analysis, parsers synt, set, treebanks.
  • 8. Semantic analysis, semantic net WordNet.
  • 9. Valency databases Vallex, VerbaLex.
  • 10. Derivational analysis, derivational interface Deriv.
