Course objectives
The course is focused on the formation of trade in antiquity, the creation of conditions for cash trade and production of first coins. It also deals with the then trade routes and their use by the end of antiquity
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction and basic literature 2. Origin of trade 3. Conditions for cash trade 4. First currency and its evolution to first coins 5. Types of coins in the Mediterranean region 6. Trade routes that connected Mediterranean region to the outside world 7. Trade stations and their utilization by the end of the Roman era 8. Trade between antiquity and the Middle Ages
