Course objectives
New Anglo-American, German and French criticism has created many possibilities of reassessing the major topics of Art History. Nevertheless the discourse of art historical revisionism in Bohemia is still perceived as something deeply foreign to the local culture and is shunned for being an artificial import and an aggressive ideology. As a matter of fact, this hostile refusal, which effectively eliminates the possible enrichment of Czech academic discourse, can be dispelled. The lecture explores various recent and contemporary art-historical approaches ranging from semiotics, gender studies, postcolonial studies, psychoanalysis, “Bildwissenschaft” and “Theorie de l’image” to recent tendencies such as global art history.
