Course objectives
The graduate of the course will gain knowledge about the typology, history as well as organization of film festivals.
Syllabus
  • Every week in a year sees a film festival taking place somewhere in the world. Each weekend a more locally oriented film gathering focuses on a particular theme. Most countries with a working film industry have their national festival, many cinematographies count on the export of films to foreign festivals, which form a crucial distributional circuit for these films.
  • The aim of the course is to introduce the typology of film festivals on examples of Czech events. Their organization and thus job possibilities for graduates will also be in focus.
  • Each lecture will be devoted to a selected festival or a particular related topic. Film events will be represented by guest tutors, mostly festival directors.
  • The course will introduce Karlovy Vary IFF („A“-list festival), Febiofest (international festival), Zlín IFF for Children and Youth, Summer Film School (more historically oriented event), Mezipatra Queer Film festival, International Documentary Film festival Jihlava, One World (human rights FF), Brno 16 (short film festival). Guest lecturers will also include a journalist with experiences from major foreign film festivals and a representative of an institution closely cooperating with film festivals.
