Course objectives
The aim of the seminar is to gain advanced knowledge of the medieval German used in the charters and their comparison to latin examples, especially of the sections that include forms. The students should be able to improve their language and interpretation skills as well as acquiring a wider understanding of the diplomatic terminology in German.
Syllabus
  • In the seminar we will read and discuss different types of charters (Imperial and royal charters, private charters) in German. The templates will consist of facsimiles (original charters and their copies) and editions.

Assessment methods
The seminar will be certified according to the student´s participation during the lessons and a written test at its conclusion, which consists of the transcription and interpretation of a charter.
