Course objectives
The aim of the course is to bring an overview of theories which are applicable in the study of interreligious contacts. The course is focused on the theories of identity, otherness and representation. Particular cases from the history of European encounters with Non-Christians will help to present major theories (T. Todorov, S. Greenblatt, J. Smith, S. Hall).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
  • -understand basic theories of the Other (Todorov, Greenblatt, Smith);
  • -consider the applicability of these theories in particular situations;
  • -understand the process of repreentation of Other.
