- Course objectives
- Main activities in the seminar are focused on analysis of language and style of selected Czech texts dating to 13-15th ct. or on analysis of Old Czech graphics. The seminar work will focus either on a topic relating to the development of society in the particular period in the Czech lands or an analysis of all aspects of language of a selected text leading to the conclusion describing the effect the text might have had, i.e. on evaluation of stylistic intentions of the author and the results. Phonological and morphological analysis of anonymous texts contributes to the specification of period of their origin. Seminar works dealing with Old Czech graphics pay attention to the extent in which the graphics of the particular text does and does not correspond with the existing characterization of graphics in 12th-15th ct. A complex view and evaluation of language and style is the result of confrontation of partial information about phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical levels as well as about the literary form. Information about the Czech society from various points of view can contribute to better understanding of the position of Old Czech in the Czech lands.
