- Course objectives
- Based on the oldest language history discussed in the previous semester, the development since the Old High German period is thematised.
Upon successful completion of the course the students will have a solid understanding of the phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical changes between the Old-, Middle- and Early New High German. Some questions of pragmatics and extra linguistic aspects are also discussed in relevant contexts. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- The lectures provides the students with the overview of the language development from Middle High German to New High German. In the seminar work the students are practicing the theoretical information in the language analyses of Middle High German and Early New High German texts with main focus on phonematic and morphology and syntax specificities.

- written final test (terminology, phonology and morphology developments MHG - NHG, analysis of a short MHG text) oral exam (discussion of selected aspects of language development, a philological analysis)
