Course objectives
Lecture and seminar are devoted to German literature 1820-1900, i.e. from Vormärz and realism to naturalism. Attention is concentrated on most important tendencies, groups and authors and on analysis of representative works. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to understand and translate some more difficukt texts of this period (e. g. Nestroy, Hebbel, Nietzsch) into Czech, to comment, analyse and interpret the most important works (especially poetry and prose) of the 19th century in context of contemporary philosophy (including historical backgound). The students should present a longer paper (10 000 signs) on a given subject.

Lectures, reading, translating and interpreting of difficult texts, the papers on individual subjects are in fact a preparation for later bachelor diplomas.
