- The final state examination is an oral exam. - It comprises several component parts * History of the field * Linguistics * Phonetics and phonology * Language history * Morphology * Lexicology and semantics * Portuguese and Brazilian literature * Theory of literature A further constituent part is the diploma thesis defence, which may take place after.
