Course objectives
The series of lectures and seminars aims to give students a basic overview of the development of Latin script from the 16th to the 20th century. Students should master these skills: a) the typology and dating of Latin scripts, b) the palaeographic characteristics of individual script types, c) palaeographic analysis and comparison, d) transcription of Early Medieval Latin texts, e) an overview of the basic literature and editions.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
apply their knowledge of the development of script from the 16th to the 20th century based on specific sources;
transcribe original Latin, German and Czech texts from the period 1500;
analyse and read original Latin, German and Czech texts from the period 1500.
