- Course objectives
- They can understand the main ideas of relatively complex text on both concrete and academic/professional topics, including discussions in their field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of academic/professional subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

- The papers of German and Austrian authors, concerning the problems of social and political history. German texts from the contemporary historical journals published in the german-speaking countries. German texts from the former (already not existing) historical journals published in the Bohemian lands.

- Assessment methods
- Credit course completed by an exam. The exam has two parts – written (gram. test) and oral (presentation + discussion on academic/professional topic). Stress is put on the comprehension of an academic/professional text and a simple but thorough interpretation of that text.

The course is taught each semester.
