- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are the following:
making students aware of history of collecting and museums;
making students aware of changing of private cabinets to public museums;
making students aware of contemporary museums by their history - Learning outcomes
- - identify a descibe significant attribute of main period of colleting history;
- compare difference between approaches to collecting in particular periods;
- know significants collections and collectors in particular periods;
- analyse sources from ancient times and middle ages and current piece of knowludge about collecting; - Syllabus
- Collectiong in renaissance and barocque time, situation in society, natural sciences and collections, collections an resources of natural sciences, theoretical books about cabinets,guides.
- Famous collectors and theirs collections - Hapsburgs, Medicis, Wettins, Wittelsbachs, John Tradescant, Olaf Worm, Athanasius Kircher, Danish kings etc.;
- Enlightement and collecting, first museum - Basel, Oxford.
- 18th century - from caninets to public museums, prerequisities in society.
- French revolution and museums.
- Political, social and economical situation in society and birth of museums. Special museums, iínfluence of nationalism.
- Museum's theory, leading representatives.
- Museums in 20th sentury.
- Museums in the beginning of new millenium.
