Prerequisites
RJ_01 Russian for Beginners I
Prerequisite for participating in the course is good knowledge of Russian alphabet (being able to read and write), the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary from the coursebook ORLOVA, N., VÁGNEROVÁ, M., KOŽUŠKOVÁ, M.: Klass!: ruština pro střední školy: učebnice a pracovní sešit. 1. Praha: Klett, 2011. ISBN 978-80-7397-066-6. The student must have coursebook on seminars (at any form).

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to improve expression and communication skills both in speaking and writing and to widen the vocabulary of this East-Slavic language. The student will deepen his/her knowledge of the Russian realia (history, art, geography). The final level after the successful finishing of the course is A2 according to CEFR.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student:
– will improve his expression skills in Russian on basic topics both in written and oral forms (at A2 level);
– will improve in general his/her communication skills at all levels (reading, writing, listening, speaking);
– will improve the vocabulary;
– will deepen his/her knowledge of Russian realia (history, art, geography).
Syllabus
  • 1. Vocabulary, topic: interests, people’s characteristics, expression of opinion; grammar: accusative case singular of masculine and feminine adjectives, instrumental case singular of masculine and feminine substantives, imperative of verbs; phonetics: pronunciation of the sound ы, pronunciation of the ending -ого;
  • 2. Vocabulary, topic: time, my day, daily routine; grammar: 1st, 2nd and 3rd person singular of verbs, verbs’ reflexive particle; phonetics: pronunciation of the reflexive particle, pronunciation of prepositions.
  • 3. Vocabulary, topic: What I do in winter, in summer, Czech holidays in Russian, Czech traditions, holidays, free time activities; grammar: 1st, 2nd and 3rd person plural of verbs, verbs’ reflexive particle, dates; phonetics: syllables же, ше, це, pronunciation of the ending -ого, -его in ordinal numerals, pronunciation of the reflexive particle;
  • 4. Vocabulary, topic: names of places and buildings in the city, orientation in the city, describing the road, transport; grammar: substantives with some prepositions, genitive and local cases of some substantives, imperative of verbs; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds зʼ, сʼ, pronunciation of the sound и;
  • 5. Revision: vocabulary, phrases, grammar, phonetic form the lectures 1–4; the improvement of speaking skills;
  • 6. Vocabulary, topic: how I am feeling, parts of body, illnesses, pharmacy, healthy lifestyle; grammar: imperative of verbs, „nemáš, nesmíš“ expression, dependent clause with если; phonetics: pronunciations of the sounds бʼ, пʼ, мʼ, pronunciations of the groups ги, ки, хи, pronunciation of -вств-;
  • 7. Vocabulary, topic: clothes and colours, clothing style, fashion; grammar: conjunction of the verb надеть; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds ч, щ, pronunciation of the sounds вʼ, фʼ;
  • 8. Vocabulary, topic: interests and hobbies, music, film and literary genres, music instruments; grammar: dependent clause with так как, genitive and local cases plural of masculine and feminine substantives and adjectives; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds дʼ, тʼ, нʼ, questions intonation;
  • 9. Revision: vocabulary, phrases, grammar, phonetic form the lectures 6–8; the improvement of speaking skills;
  • 10. Revision: vocabulary, phrases, grammar, phonetic form the lectures 1–9;
  • 11. Revision: additional materials according to students’ needs and interests.

Teaching methods
The language course in its classical version: work with the student’s book and the workbook, occasional necessary theoretical explanations of the teacher, home tasks, additional materials according to attenders’ needs and interests, videos, audios, online quizzes etc.
Assessment methods
The course is finished by test that verifies the knowledge gained by students; to get credit, it is necessary to have at least 60 % points. To successfully finish the subject, the regular attendance is required—the maximum of two absences, apart from the period of changing in registration.
