Course objectives
The main objectiv of this curs is to explain and to practice basic morphological and syntactic phenomena of the Latin normative grammar. Students will read ancient, medieval and modern easy religious texts, so primarly they will learn to use Latin language in practice.
Syllabus
  • An introduction to working with original Latin texts - reading and analyzing selected Latin sources pertaining to history of religion, cults or everyday life. Model examples of classical, medieval or neo-Latin are presented to the students. Reading the texts includes grammatical as well as historical commentary.

Teaching methods
Lectures, practice (translating). Regular class attendance and homework are required.
Assessment methods
Type of course: seminar. Requirements: regular attendance and participation in the course (min. 50%), short report on chosen cultural-historical theme; final exam – basic Latin normative grammar and vocabulary (source: Bartoněk, A. Latina pro posluchače filozofické fakulty), translation of short original text (using dictionary).
